Titanic & Olympic Steamships: Marketing brochure (facsimile), 1911

In 1911 the White Star Line issued this fold-out marketing brochure for two of the era’s greatest symbols of human power over the elements: the Titanic and its sister ship, the Olympic. The brochure includes a 4-foot-long cutaway view of Titanic, described with Olympic as “the finest steamers in the world.” Both ships featured 50,000 horsepower coal-fired steam engines for propulsion and on-board power generation. Various pages of the brochure describe the luxury and sophistication of these floating cities, each of which included room for 2,500 passengers and a crew of 890.
